Milestones in our region

The GR 223

Some of the 23 stages of the Sentier pass through some of our region’s must-sees. Focus on these three exceptional stages.

The 446-kilometre GR 223, also known as the “Sentier des douaniers”, leaves no one indifferent. The beauty and diversity of the landscapes, the exceptional viewpoints, the must-see places that the trail passes through, such as part of the D-Day beaches, La Hague or thebarquement beaches, La Hague and Mont Saint-Michel… all of which make this trail the best way to combine business with pleasure, effort with permanent comfort.

Stage 17

From Pirou to Agon-Coutainville, between historical and natural heritage

From the famous fortress of Pirou, the twenty kilometres or so will take you to our seaside resorts, such as Gouville-sur-Mer with its famous colourful cabins, Blainville-sur-Mer with its stretches of sand that are ideal for fishing and, of course, Agon-Coutainville, with its long promenade and distinctive architecture.es, Blainville-sur-Mer with its stretches of sand ideal for fishing and, of course, Agon-Coutainville, with its long promenade and distinctive architecture. Strolling along these paths also means passing within a stone’s throw of some of the Channel’s most breathtaking harbours, such as Geffosses and Blainville-sur-Mer. The area is also rich in biodiversity and unique flora and fauna.

Stage 18

From Agon-Coutainville to Regnéville-sur-Mer, a short tour of Le Havre de Sienne

For this leg, you will set off from Le Passous towards the Pointe d’Agon, which deserves to be your first stopover. From here, observe the salt meadow sheep grazing peacefully, learn to recognise the extraordinary flora of the area, enjoy the sumptuous setting and the view over the harbour of Sienne, discover the history of the area and learn more about Fernand Lechanteur thanks to the building in his honour.learn more about Fernand Lechanteur thanks to the building erected in his honour, or immortalise the no less famous lighthouse at the Pointe d’Agon. Next, head for Heugueville-sur-Sienne and the Pont de la Roque. A great place to watch the tidal bore, you can then return to the harbour, this time on the south side, via the little hamlet of Urville at Regnéville-sur-Mer. Let yourself be charmed by the narrow streets, the stone houses and the tranquillity that emanates from it. On arrival, be sure to visit the ruins of Regnéville-sur-Mer castle and the maritime museum it houses to learn more about the site’s rich history.

Stage 19

From Regnéville-sur-Mer to Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal

To round off this part of the customs trail passing through Coutances mer et bocage, head for Le Havre de la Vanlée, the southernmost harbour on the coast of the same name. In between, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the Hauteville-sur-Mer region and the famous Annoville dunes, a site where sand, herbs and marshes combine to make this place quite simply unique. You’ll then continue on to Lingreville, Bricqueville-sur-Mer and its saltworks, and finally Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal.

No less than 50 kilometres of the famous GR 223 pass through our region. From the material and historical heritage to the wealth of fauna and flora at the sites you pass through, you’ll never cease to be amazed and captivated.
